Homemade pizza will never be the same after you try this two ingredient homemade pizza dough. Seriously…it almost felt silly taking photos of the ingredients for this pizza dough. It really is just self rising flour and greek yogurt…nothing else. The crust turns out to be just the right mix of crunchy and chewy with a great rich flavor from the Greek yogurt.
We taught this recipe at our most recent baking class and it was a huge hit because of how easy and delicious it was! Try it out for yourself and have fun experimenting with toppings until you find your favorite combination.
Ingredients For Two Ingredient Homemade Pizza Dough:
1 cup plain greek yogurt
2 cups self rising flour
(Makes enough dough for two medium pizzas)
A note on self rising flour… It’s basically just regular flour that has baking powder and salt mixed in to it already. If you don’t have any in your pantry, just add 1 1/2 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/2 teaspoon of salt for every cup of all purpose flour.
Directions For Two Ingredient Homemade Pizza Dough:
In a Stand Mixer:
Add yogurt to mixing bowl then self rising flour on top.
Using the dough hook attachment, mix on medium until ingredients are well incorporated. It will look like clumps of dough at first…
When a single ball of dough has formed, you can move on to the “kneading” phase.
*Alternatively, you can mix the yogurt and flour together with a spoon until it comes together and then let the dough hook do all the kneading for you.
Turn up speed to medium-high and let it knead for 6-8 minutes. Make sure you have the mixer in a locked position for this!
Feel free to have another cup of coffee (or a glass of wine) while the stand mixer does all the work for you.
Next, remove dough ball from mixer and knead several times on a lightly floured surface adding additional self rising flour until the dough doesn’t stick to your hands. Make sure that you flour your surface with self rising flour. You want the dough to be stretchy and a little sticky but not so much so that it sticks to your fingers.
By Hand:
Add yogurt and flour to a bowl and mix with a wooden spoon until incorporated.
Knead on a lightly floured surface for 8-10 minutes adding flour until dough doesn’t stick to hands. Make sure that you flour your surface with self rising flour.
Making the Pizza:
Preheat oven to 500 degrees.
Split the dough into two equal parts. If making only one pizza, put one of the dough balls into a plastic bag and refrigerate for up to a week until you’re ready to use it!
Begin by stretching the dough with your hands (or use a rolling pin). Then place on a large cookie sheet.
Continue to stretch with your hands so it’s spread thinly and evenly. Don’t worry if you tear a small hole in it, just pinch it closed and keep going. This pizza tastes best with a thinner crust.
As you can tell, it looks pretty rustic…which is basically a great word for “doesn’t look perfect but tastes delicious”.
Top with marinara, dollops of pesto, and shredded mozzarella. (Or ingredients of choice.)
I’ve also added some diced mushrooms and salami to my pizza because I had some in the fridge. Slices of fresh mozzarella are also delicious with the pesto/marinara combo.
Bake one pizza at a time for 8-10 minutes until cheese is bubbly and starting to brown.
Slice and serve while hot!
Hope you love this two ingredient homemade pizza dough as much as I do! What are your favorite homemade pizza toppings? With how quickly and easily this pizza comes together, I know I’ll be making lots of pizza in the months to come.
happy cooking,
Yuli
